TRIBAL DRUMMING PLAYLIST

As a qualified sound therapist and student of music therapy, I began experimenting with percussion several years ago. During Covid 19 lockdown, we began an online meditation class, three times per week, to allow people to find relaxation during stressful times. While experimenting with different forms of music for the group and actively participating in 'drumming circles', I began compiling a list of tribal drumming tracks into a playlist.

After a short period of time, I was approached by various musicians, who asked if their music might be suitable for the playlist. This came as a shock, because I was focusing more on frequency sounds and 'binaural beats'. When I questioned a musician as to how he knew about my drumming playlist, he told me that it was proving popular. I checked and, sure enough, around 1,000 listeners were now following the playlist.

The playlist has continued to grow in popularity and, as of today (May 23rd, 2022), it has nearly 8,300 followers and continues to grow. As such, some of the finest musicians across the world have been in contact and I've been honoured to add their music into the playlist. I'll be contacting some of them across time for reviews and interviews about their latest creative projects.

FAREWELL TO A LEGEND

A sure sign of getting older is that your inspiring heroes from younger years begin to fade away. While still coping with the loss of 'Il Maestro', Ennio Morricone in 2020, yesterday brought the horrible news that another musical role model, Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou - AKA Vangelis - has passed away at the age of 79. Vangelis leaves the world a legacy of phenomenal music, especially within the world of film soundtracks with such classics as 'Bladerunner', 'Chariots of Fire' and '1492: Conquest of Paradise'. His work with the incredible vocal talents of Jon Anderson will also live long into the future and inspire millions of future musicians, composers and singers.  

I first encountered this genius composer in the 1970's, when I bought a copy of 'Heaven and Hell', after hearing his song, 'Cosmos' being used as the theme for a magnificent TV show of the same name, with Dr Carl Sagan. One of the tracks on this album has stayed with me for over 40 years, namely a piece on Side 2, called '12 O'Clock'. It is a piece of music which has never failed to implant astonishingly-clear image into my creative brain and will always be a perfect tool for any form of personal meditation.

Thank you so much, Evángelos. Your physical force may have left this world, but your creative, inspirational light will forever burn brightly. x

PLANNED ARTICLES FOR 2022

I have some global artists lined up for interviews about their current musical projects, alongside reviews of singles and albums released worldwide this year.

In time, it is hoped that this place can be a source of information for anyone wishing to find music of an uplifting and peaceful nature; especially for those who use meditation in their lives regularly.

WELCOME

As a lifelong, passionate devotee of a) all things musical and b) all things spiritual, I thought it would be fun to combine the two and produce online content that covers both upcoming and existing music that seeks to touch the soul. 

Over coming months, I'll be listing and reviewing new releases by composers, musicians and producers of spiritual music, as well as conducting interviews with those who create music of an uplifting, inspirational nature.

As this projects builds, I'll be sure to include details of upcoming tours across the world.
